Action India initiated the Pad Project in the year 2017. The project aims at manufacturing of sanitary pads (at reasonable costs) for the women, by the women. The pad project consists of a manufacturing unit in Hapur (Uttar Pradesh) and related awareness programs for the women and girls of the community.

The problem of menstrual health and hygiene can impact various groups of people, but it predominantly affects women and girls around the world. Some key groups that are particularly impacted are women and girls in low-income communities, girls in schools, marginalised communities, women and girls in rural areas. The problem can have far-reaching implications on their physical health, emotional well-being, education, and overall quality of life. We aim to reach both men and women to create an environment free from stigma, discrimination and misconceptions that surround menstruation . We strive to create safe and hygienic protection to reach all economic levels where the menstrual pad becomes an essential item in the household grocery list. This will lead to prevent reproductive health issues which are at present ignored and women suffer in silence.

Some of the core objectives of this project are as follows-

  • To promote a women friendly product at affordable price and available at doorstep, produced, marketed and sold by women.
  • To create awareness on menstrual hygiene and reproductive health, promoting best practices.
  • To enhance skills and develop financial capabilities among women who are running the unit.

Our ACHIEVEMENTS:-

  • Training and development programs are helping the girls and community at large, to apply the acquired knowledge in their everyday lives. We have persistently tried to maintain an ongoing connection, post the successful completion of the training.
  • The girls have learnt the safe and correct disposal of sanitary napkins in an environment friendly manner. The impact of these trainings on schools and the community is huge.
  • The participants take their learning and inform and discuss with their peers. Peer groups have developed as a result, where a lot of the information from the training programmes are discussed and shared.
  • We have been able to ensure regular availability of sanitary napkins to the adolescents in schools and the community. The ease of access to sanitary pads has increased manifold since they are now able to avail pads at their doorstep.
