Menstruation or periods is a natural biological process wherein a female goes through monthly bleeding that occurs due to the shedding of the uterus lining. Many girls are not educated properly about menstrual health leading to poor menstrual hygiene causing many problems like itching, rashes, and sometimes major complications like pelvic inflammatory disease.
Project Nandini is based on the theme of Menstrual Hygiene Management that aims to educate girls in the age group of 10-19 years on menstruation and going through their puberty years without fear and shame and give them the confidence to step into womanhood. With the knowledge of biological facts, they would learn to understand their body and the monthly phenomenon of menstruation. We also aim to dispel the myths and taboos perpetuated by culture and tradition to control the sexuality of women and girls and ensure safe and hygienic practices while spreading awareness around the silence of menstruation. The first phase of the Nandini Project started in July 2019 with the selection of 5 senior secondary schools in Ludhiana and 3 working girls Hostels of Vardhman Textiles Ltd. The Second phase of the Nandini project is implemented in schools, villages, working women’s hostels, and communities at Budni in the Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh and is also supported by the Vardhman Fabrics.
